State Representative Jim Hoops of Ohio’s 81st District joined Sharon Sams and the Kenton Rotary to provide a legislative update from Columbus and his candidacy for the Ohio State Senate.

Hoops will be on the May 5, 2026, primary ballot, seeking the 1st Senate District seat currently held by term-limited Senator Rob McColley. The district encompasses Hancock, Hardin, Putnam, Henry, Williams, Defiance, Paulding, Van Wert, Fulton, and a portion of Logan County.

During the meeting, Hoops shared his background in public service and community engagement.

He previously served in the Ohio House from 1999 to 2006, returned in 2018, and has since been re-elected four times.

Known for his deep connections with Northwest Ohio residents, Hoops emphasized his commitment to representing their interests in Columbus. He concluded his remarks by taking questions from Rotarians on topics such as taxes, Medicaid, school vouchers, the state budget, and public libraries.
