The body of a male victim was located just over 6 hours after going under water at Adventure Trails campground in Bellefontaine this past Saturday.
According to a release, the Logan County Dispatch Center received a frantic 911 call reporting a 28-year- old male went into the water and had not surfaced.
In speaking with the witness, the adult girlfriend of the male stated that they were from Marysville and had been camping for the weekend.
At around 1:15pm Saturday afternoon, her boyfriend had taken her 5- year- old daughter out onto the pond on a standard canoe.
Her daughter began to scream after the canoe began taking on water, and the mother got into a kayak and paddled out to the location.
She was able to retrieve her daughter from the water, however her boyfriend, who was not wearing a life jacket, had gone under.
At around 7:30pm Saturday evening, the victim’s body was located.
The search was conducted by Logan County Sheriff’s deputies and a dive team from the Indian Lake Joint Fire Department.
The Columbus Division of Fire provided a boat, sonar and additional divers to assist at the scene.
More information is expected to be released today.
