A Union County Sheriff‘s deputy had the honor of leading a very special parade for a boy named Owen, to help kick off Spina Bifida Awareness Month, recognized throughout October.
Owen is a Darby Creek Township resident, where Deputy Rob Louden patrols, and through his time serving the area, the two have developed a special friendship.
Deputy Louden led the parade, followed by the Jerome Township and Pleasant Valley Fire Departments, all coming together to show their support for Owen and help raise awareness for Spina Bifida.
Spina Bifida is a condition that occurs when the spine and spinal cord do not form properly during early development.
It can affect each person differently, including mobility and other physical functions.
