Students from the Classes of 2025 to 2030 at Upper Scioto Valley High School recently teamed up with Green Forests Work to develop a walking path and reforest a park in the Village of McGuffey.

Village Council decided to shift from mowing the field to launching an ecological restoration project and reached out to Green Forests Work for assistance.

A local farmer was hired to plow and disk the field, breaking up the sod and preparing it for restoration.

64 participants planted 3,000 trees and spread nearly 100 pounds of native grasses and wildflower seeds across the property.

As the trees grow, they will eventually shade out the prairie, and the property will become an oak-hickory forest.

The town plans to maintain the area and install educational signs, benches, and tables for public use.
