Wapakoneta – The Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on August 5, 2026, at approximately 3:34 p.m. in Clay Township, Auglaize County, Ohio. The crash occurred on US Route 33 just east of State Route 65 south.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, operated by Tyler Joseph, age 35, of West Liberty, Ohio, was traveling eastbound on US Route 33 and struck Troy Ray, age 58, of Clyde, Ohio, who was in the eastbound lane working as a flagger in a construction zone.
Ray sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was transported to Eley Funeral Home in Wapakoneta, Ohio.
Joseph was wearing his seatbelt and did not sustain any injuries.
The Wapakoneta Post was assisted on scene by the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, Auglaize County CERT, Ohio Department of Transportation, St. Johns Fire and EMS, Auglaize County Coroner’s Office, and Tops Towing.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the crash.
Next of kin notification has been made.
The crash remains under investigation by the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
