Four Killed in Head On Crash Thursday on CR 144

A crash in the 20,000 block of County Road 144 late Thursday afternoon claimed the lives of four Marion County residents.

According to a release from the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, a minivan being operated at a high rate of speed by Daren Friend, went left of center and struck head on an eastbound car being driven by Joyce Mitchell.

Mitchell, a passenger in her car, Henry Mitchell, Friend and a passenger in his vehicle, Daryl Friend, were all pronounced dead at the scene.

The Multi-County Crash Investigation Team was called to assist in the investigation, which continues.

The Sheriff’s Office enforcement unit was assisted at the scene by the Mt. Victory Fire Department, Kenton Fire Department, BKP EMS, Hardin Co Sheriff’s Drone Unit, Hardin County Coroner’s Office and Osborn’s Towing.

Family and friends of Daryl Friend and Daren Friend will gather in LaRue tonight (Friday) at 8 to light candles and lanterns in their honor. That will take place at 304 North Section Street in LaRue.
