The Ada Police Department has received several complaints this year regarding the use of electric scooters, officially referred to by the State of Ohio as Electric Personal Assistive Mobility Devices.

In a release, the department reminded residents the Electric scooters may be operated on sidewalks, bike paths, and roadways where the posted speed limit is under 55 miles an hour, and operators must follow all standard traffic laws and rules of the road.

Individuals under 18 years of age must wear a helmet, and individuals under 16 must be under the direct visual and audible supervision of someone 18 or older.

No person under the age of 14 is permitted to operate electric scooters.

These laws are in place to ensure the safety of both riders and the public, and parents and guardians are urged to review the guidelines with their children.

If you have safety concerns or would like to report an issue, contact the Ada Police Department at 419-634-0010, option 1.
