The Allen East School District has made the decision to add time to the school day to make up for lost hours due to cancellations and delays.
Students are required to be in school for a minimum of 1001 hours for grades 6 through 12, 910 hours for kindergarten through 5 and 455 for pre-school.
The school has cancelled 9 full days and has had seven 2-hour delays.
As a result, Allen East is below the minimum hours for seniors and very close for grades 6 through 11.
To make up for the hours, Superintendent Mel Rentschler announced that the Allen East start time will be 7:45am instead of the normal 8:15 starting March 30, until May 1.
Allen East students will gain 11.5 additional instructional hours that will make up for the deficit for seniors and provide a cushion for grades 6 through 11.
Buses will pick up students 30 minutes earlier during that time.
On days with a two-hour delay from March 30 through May 1, school will start at 9:45am.
