The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to be aware of elder fraud.

Scammers are targeting seniors with phone calls, emails, computer pop-ups, text messages and letters designed to steal money and personal information.

You should not share personal information over the phone unless you are certain of the recipient, and never send money or gift cards to strangers.

You should also verify any claims of emergencies or prize winnings with trusted sources before responding and report suspicious activity to the Federal Trade Commission.

Residents are encouraged to share this message with friends and family, especially senior residents.
