Benjamin Logan High School Continues Annual Patriot Day Tradition on 25th Anniversary of 9/11

BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio — Benjamin Logan High School students and staff continued a longstanding Patriot Day tradition Friday, pausing throughout the morning to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost and honor the courage and sacrifice demonstrated on September 11, 2001.

Friday, September 11, 2026, marked the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

As part of BLHS’s annual observance, student leaders read brief scripts over the school’s PA system leading up to each moment of remembrance, helping students understand what happened at that specific time on September 11, 2001, and why the moment remains significant today.

Throughout the morning, students and staff paused at the times marking the four attacks. Benjamin Logan students Ashe Moorhouse and Miles Grandbois sounded “Taps” during the observances as a solemn tribute to the victims, first responders and heroes of 9/11.

8:46 a.m. — World Trade Center, North Tower
American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

9:03 a.m. — World Trade Center, South Tower
United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower.

9:37 a.m. — Pentagon
American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon.

10:03 a.m. — Flight 93
United Airlines Flight 93 crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers and crew attempted to regain control of the aircraft.

Benjamin Logan High School has observed Patriot Day in this manner for many years, with student leaders helping guide the school through each moment of remembrance. The annual tradition continued this year as the nation recognized a quarter century since the September 11 attacks.

This year’s observance also aligned with a national call from U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, who encouraged American schools to provide students with opportunities to honor the victims, heroic first responders, patriots, service members and surviving family members whose lives were forever changed by September 11 and its aftermath.

Schools also received the Presidential Proclamation on Patriot Day 2026, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the attacks and calling on Americans to remember the lives lost and the extraordinary acts of courage and service that followed.

For Benjamin Logan, the annual observance serves as an important opportunity to preserve the history and meaning of September 11 for a generation of students who were born years after the attacks. Through reflection, student leadership and tradition, BLHS continues to ensure that the sacrifices of that day are remembered.
