The City of Kenton is preparing for the draining of the water tower according to Burl Helton, Project Manager for the city.

Five portable tanks, like the one shown set up at the wastewater treatment plant in the above picture, will be placed throughout the town.

“Our water tower helps us regulate pressure throughout the system”, Helton stated. “Without the tower, we would have to run the pumps at the treatment plant continuously and still run the risk of water main breaks and other issues due to the fluctuations in pressure.”

Plans are to drain the tower, make repairs to any small leaks and weld shut the openings on the top of the bowl that were used for cathodic protection.

The final step will be to paint the exterior of the tower.

Work is scheduled to be completed yet this fall, but no firm date to begin has been set.
