Kenton City Council conducted its 4th regular session of the year Monday evening.

During the meeting, Safety Service Director Cindy Murray announced a utility rate increase. She said the Utility Board agreed to approve a 3% increase that is part of legislation. She said that will take effect March 1, 2026, but residents won’t see it until the May bill comes out. With the 3% increase, the minimum bill for water goes from $27.42 to $28.24, an increase of .82 cents, and the minimum bill for sewer goes from $35.07 to $36.12, an increase of $1.05.

Murray also said the city has signed the electric aggregate for the citizens of Kenton. She said they signed a 36-month agreement with Direct Energy. Currently with Dynegy, residents pay .0964 dollars per kilowatt. The new rate will be .0979 with Direct Energy.

Also at the meeting, Murray announced:

.No parking will be allowed on the south side of Smith Avenue in the 200 and 300 block. She said residents impacted will be notified. Murray said it is because the street is not wide enough to get a school bus down through there.

. Stop signs will be added on Leighton Street at Grove Street, making that a four-way stop intersection.

. Introduced Theron Gammon the new Public Works Superintendent for the City of Kenton. He assumed that position on December 15, 2025.

Also at the meeting:

. Councilperson Doris Blum announced that Revitalize Kenton is planning to hold a city clean-up in the downtown Kenton area on April 25. It will take place from 9am to noon, and everyone in Kenton is invited to join in the clean-up effort.

. Mayor Lynn Webb encouraged those who currently park all day in the downtown parking spaces to find a lot to park in so spaces can be freed up. She said she is working on putting an ordinance for timed parking before council members soon.

The next meeting will be held on March 9.
