Fatal traffic crashes have risen sharply this year as compared to last year in Hancock County.

According to a release from the Findlay Post of the Ohio State Patrol, in the first three months of 2019, there have been six fatal traffic crashes resulting in nine deaths. There was one fatality during the same time in 2018, and 11 fatalities throughout the entire year.

The fatal crashes this year can be contributed to three factors – unsafe speed, driving left of center and failure to yield.

Traffic crashes involving distracted driving are also continuing to increase.

Many times people who drive left of center or fail to yield are distracted.

Troopers at the Findlay Post are urging people to slow down, focus on safety at hand and to always wear seat belts when driving or riding in a motor vehicle.
