
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office says a former Riverdale Local Schools staff member is now facing an assault charge following an incident earlier this month involving a student.
Deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office responded to Riverdale Local Schools on April 14th after a reported assault at the district’s K–12 building.
According to a release, on April 14, 2026, at approximately 2:59 p.m., deputies with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office responded to Riverdale Local Schools, located at 20613 State Route 37, Mount Blanchard, Ohio, regarding a reported assault.
Deputies investigated the incident and found the situation began when a staff member confronted a student about a suspected school policy violation involving the possible possession or transfer of a vape device. The incident escalated when the student attempted to leave the staff member’s office and the staff member tried to stop the student. A physical altercation followed, during which the student sustained minor scratches to the neck, face, and jaw area.
Ultimately, school staff conducted a search of the student’s belongings, including a locker, and no vape or related paraphernalia was located.
Following a review by the Findlay Law Director’s Office, Nathan Sorg, 52, of Findlay, Ohio, was formally charged with Assault (M1) in violation of Ohio Revised Code 2903.13. Sorg is currently awaiting an initial appearance in Findlay Municipal Court.
