GoFundMe has removed multiple fundraising campaigns from its platform after being urged to do so by the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association.

The fundraisers were started for Robert Hinton Jr., who is accused of intentionally striking and killing Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputy Larry Henderson on Friday May 1.

A day before that, police shot and killed Hinton’s 18 year old son during the course of an investigation concerning a stolen vehicle.

Over the weekend, the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association strongly condemned the fundraisers and called for their immediate removal.

Hardin County Sheriff Keith Everhart called the fundraising accounts disgusting and joined in the call to have them removed.

On Tuesday May 6, GoFundMe’s Director of Policy and Engagement, Emily Barson, informed BSSA leaders that a number of campaigns were removed for violating the company’s terms of service related to raising money for individuals charged with violent crimes.

She added that any money donated to the campaign is fully refunded to the person who sent in the donation.

On behalf of everyone at GoFundMe, Barson expressed their deepest condolences to the Ohio Law Enforcement community for their loss.

She added that Deputy Henderson and his family are in their thoughts and prayers.

Sheriff Everhart said GoFundMe responded in a tremendous way and praised them for a job well done.
