The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office warned residents Thursday about a phishing scam that is designed to steal your financial information.

A Hardin County resident reported that that received a notice by text about a hearing for parking violation within the City of Columbus via text messaging.

The Sheriff’s Office said a court will never serve notice to you via text messaging.

If you receive a text message claiming you have an outstanding warrant, a missed jury summons, or a parking violation, especially if it includes a pay now link, it is a scam.

Official court business is conducted through the U.S. Postal Service or, in specific legal cases, by personal service from a process server or law enforcement officer.

If you receive a notice like, never provide financial information to pay for the alleged violation.
