Kenton Lions Club Hears From Midwest Regional ESC Superintendent

The Kenton Lions Club met at Kenton Elks Lodge 157 at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 16^th.

Seventeen members attended, along with guest speaker Dr. Rick Smith, superintendent of the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center.

Lion Tracy Anderson led the Pledge of Allegiance and the opening prayer. Dr. Smith introduced himself and discussed his background in education, including the school systems where he has served as superintendent and in other roles. He then described the Educational Service Center, which serves Hardin, Logan, and Shelby counties, and outlined the services it provides.

He explained how the center supports and collaborates with local communities in several ways, including background checks, fingerprinting, potential fiscal services for member districts, and student and family grants that assist with student driving.

Dr. Smith also noted that the center operates a preschool separate from Kenton City Schools and provides interventions and specialized learning programs tailored to each child’s needs. After his presentation, he answered questions and responded to comments from club members.

The club approved the submitted secretary’s and treasurer’s reports. Lion Jack Elsasser shared the latest mint collection totals. Lion PDG Bill Keller discussed scheduling the fall roadside cleanup for September 27, with participants meeting at Hillcrest Bowling Alley at 2:00 p.m.

Lion Treasurer Kirk Cameron said he would email companies about renewing this year’s Lions banners and encouraged members to seek new banner sponsors. He also reminded members who have not yet paid that their dues are due. Lion PDG Bill Keller reported that he sold two dozen brooms to the Fostoria Lions Club. Lion Jon Seimon won the 50/50 drawing and donated his winnings back to the club.

The meeting adjourned at 7:58 p.m., followed by the singing of the Lions Roar.
