Kenton Lions Club Hears Presentation from Mid-Ohio Energy CEO

The Kenton Lions club met Wednesday, July 15^th, 2006 at the Kenton Elks Lodge 157 at 6:50 PM. 16 members and guest John Metcalf, CEO of Mid-Ohio Energy were present for the meeting.  

President Lion Tracy Anderson led in the Pledge of Allegiance and led the club in prayer.  Guest Speaker John Metcalf presented the club a slideshow presentation talking about several topics: how the power grids were formed, how those electrical grids are used and where each is basically broken down within the State. 

Mr. Metcalf described currently how many electrical plants and generators they currently have either it being coal or a gas type plant, and what plants are proposed to close by next year or in the future.  He talked about how they also use data centers for their power generators, the large amount of generated power it takes to run, and what they help run within that located grid. 

He went into talking about renewable resources (solar/wind), how they are currently being used, what power they generate, and how they would need to be resourced for use.  Finally, Mr. Metcalf took and answered several questions from the club about things ranging from the possibility of a nuclear plant, using biodegradable type resources, more information about how the solar panels work and lasting use. 

Lions voted to accept both the Treasurer and Secretary’s reports that were submitted.  President Lion Tracy Anderson presented to the club a Thank You card from Lion Gary Whitmore’s son Jack Whitmore for the scholarship given to him from the club. 

Lion Daryl Flowers talked to the club more about the gazebo project, and what more it may take in moving the structure.  He said that both he and Lion Gary Whitmore went to inspect it more, and what it possibly may will take to move it. 

Past President Lion Brad Bailey took another aerial view photo of the park, and may now have a better location for it.  More talk about it and what will still be needed will be talked about at later meetings. 

President Lion Tracy Anderson presented the club with the amount we received from the baseball tournament while working the concession stands during the dates needed. 

Thanks to Lion Joe Landsburg for setting this up for the club with that event, members were happy to be there & help, along with visibility for the club to public.

The 50/50 was won by Lion President Tracy Anderson and he donated it back to the club. 

Meeting adjourned at 8:20pm followed by the singing of the Lions Roar.
