Marion County residents are to remain aware of a telephone scam which has affected area residents.

Per the advisory on the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, a caller using spoofed numbers in the 740 area code may claim to be from the Social Security Administration Investigative Unit and ask victims to press one to speak to a representative.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office advises residents who receive calls claiming they will be arrested if they do not pay the caller to report the calls to law enforcement immediately.
