NWS Confirms 70–80 MPH Straight-Line Winds Caused Damage at Benjamin Logan School

The National Weather Service has confirmed damaging straight-line winds of 70 to 80 miles per hour were responsible for the damage observed at Benjamin Logan School property Tuesday evening.

There was some roof damage along a flat portion of one of the school buildings, several light poles were either bent or broken, including the football stadium, several small outbuildings on the grounds of the stadium complex were moved from their original locations, including one anchored to a cement slab, and there was some structural damage observed on two outbuildings at the Benjmain Logan Land Lab.

Also on the grounds, a school bus was overturned, and there was extensive tree damage a wooded area east of the school.

Benjamin Logan Elementary cancelled classes and the Middle and High School operated on a two-hour delay on Wednesday.

After assessing the storm damage and ensuring it was safe, students and staff returned to class on time this morning.
