KENTON, OH – OhioHealth Hardin Memorial Hospital will offer special hours for lung cancer screenings from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 14, to help people at increased risk of lung cancer access early detection.
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer death among both men and women. Early detection offers the best chance for successful treatment, making regular screening an important tool for people at increased risk.
Lung cancer screening is recommended for adults ages 50 to 80 who currently smoke or formerly smoked and have a smoking history of at least 20 pack-years. A pack-year is the equivalent of smoking one pack of cigarettes daily for one year.
“The earlier lung cancer is found, the better the chances of treating it successfully,” said Abhishake Kaapuraala, MD, family medicine hospitalist, OhioHealth Primary and Walk-In Care Kenton. “Screening is important because it can help detect lung cancer before symptoms appear, especially in people who are at higher risk. If you qualify, I encourage you to get screened. It’s a simple test that could make a big difference.”
A physician’s order is required for the screening. Individuals who need help obtaining an order can contact OhioHealth Hardin Memorial Hospital for assistance. Lung cancer screenings are covered by most insurance plans and Medicare.
Appointments are required, and registration closes Saturday, Oct. 31.
To schedule a screening or learn more, call OhioHealth Hardin Memorial Hospital at 419-675-8181.
Participants should enter through the hospital’s main entrance.
