Plane Crashes While Landing at Allen County Regional Airport on Sunday
Perry Twp – On September 20, 2026, at approximately 4:00 P.M., the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a report of a plane crash at the Allen County Regional Airport.
John Shaffer, age 74, from Fremont Ohio was attempting to land a 1984 Shaffer Rand KR2 aircraft at the Allen County Regional Airport. The landing gear was not locked in the down position, and the fuselage struck the ground. Mr. Shaffer was not injured in the crash. The aircraft was lifted from the scene by Miller Auto.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, Miller Auto, The Allen County Regional Airport, Perry Township Fire, and Perry Township EMS.
The crash remains under investigation.
