A ceremony renaming a section of State Route 273 in front of Ridgemont School to the Major David McGue Memorial Highway was held Friday May 9 in Mt. Victory.

Maj. McGue was a 31-year member of the United States military and was an active duty soldier, serving as a physician’s assistant at the time of his death.

He was also born and raised in Hardin County and was a 1989 graduate of Ridgemont.

Former Representative Jon Cross drafted the legislation to rename the section of highway. He said it’s important because, “We will never forget David and what he has done for our country serving in the military, but also we won’t forget all the men and women who have served in our military and the great things they have done for our country. This road naming is just one example of many of the things we got to do during my time in the legislature to honor and respect our veterans and those who served in the military, and it’s just a great day.”

Major McGue’s dad, Mike said this means the world to him, “There’s nothing like it. I appreciate the things that everybody’s done to make this happen, and David would definitely appreciate all of this and be honored and grateful for everyone who had something to do with making it happen.”

The late Major’s son Briley expressed his appreciation, “I’m just grateful for my community always helping me out and have always had my family’s back. I just appreciate that so very much.

Rep. Mathews presented a flag flown at the State House in honor of Major McGue to his son Briley.

In addition to Cross, Matt Jennings, a classmate of Maj. McGue, current Rep. Ty Mathews, the major’s dad Mike, his brother Mike, Chris Hughes from the Ohio Department of Transportation spoke at the ceremony, and Ridgemont School Superintendent Brian Hogan.
