Springfield Post investigating a non-injury single-engine airplane crash in Clark County

SPRINGFIELD – Yesterday, July 20, just after 7:30 p.m., troopers from the Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a non-injury single-engine airplane crash.

The crash occurred at the Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport (KSGH) on W. Blee Road in Green Township, Clark County.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 1979 Piper Saratoga SP single-engine airplane, piloted by Michael Styles, 78, Dayton, was flying from Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport (KMGY) to Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport.

While landing, the Piper’s front landing gear potentially suffered mechanical failure, and its front end made contact with the runway. The Piper slid and came to a stop just off the side of the runway.

Styles and his passenger, Pamela Styles, 78, Dayton, were not injured from the crash. Air traffic at the airport was temporarily delayed during the crash investigation. The scene was cleared just before 9:30 p.m.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) was notified and will be conducting their own separate investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by the Springfield Post.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Springfield Police Division, and the Hustead Fire Department & EMS.
