Storms Bring Down Power Poles, Trigger Widespread Outages

Several rounds of thunderstorms have rumbled across the area over the past couple of days.

Monday morning’s storm brought down power poles and lines in the 900 block of East Columbus Street in Kenton which resulted in a widespread power outage.

AEP crews had power restored to most customers by 6:00 Monday evening.

If that’s not enough, a transformer fire that occurred on State Route 31 near County Road 160, interrupted service to customers south of Kenton.

Power was restored by 8:00 Monday evening, and 31 was closed for several hours.

Heavy rain, which rolled through again this morning, has resulted in flooding around the area.

Motorists should use caution, and do not attempt to drive across an area where there is standing water and remember the phrase “turn around don’t drown.”

A Flood Watch remains in effect until 8:00 Wednesday morning.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has also been issued for the region, which is set to go until 8:00 pm this evening (08/11/26).
