Kenton wrestling team competed in the long running Marion Pleasant Sally George Invite this past weekend. Kenton placed seventeenth with 35 points. Mechanicsburg won the tournament with 176 points. Riverdale (14th – 56 points), Ada (15th – 50 points) and Upper Sandusky (13th – 57 points) also participated in the event.
Kenton had two wrestlers reach the podium placing 4th in the tournament. Isaiah Mundy at 144 lbs and Isaac Blevins at 165 lbs. Both wrestlers made it to the semi-finals before dropping down to the consolations rounds. Mundy quickly pinned Riverdale’s Cohen Phillips in forty-one seconds and then soundly beat the tournament second seed Calder Erickson-Miyamoto from Whetstone by at score of 14-7. Blevins came into the tournament as the number one seed and had a bye in the first round before pinning Layne Simon of Ada at 3:20. Blevins then lost a close match to David Dell from Westland by a score of 6-4. Mundy dropped a tough match to the third seed from Logan Elm, Nehemiah Hess.
In the consolation semis, Blevins defeated Isaiah Tubbs of Mechanicsburg by a 13-0 major decision to make it to the third place match and Mundy beat Wade Naff of Mechanicsburg by a 10-7 decision. However, both wrestlers lost their last match of the day to finish fourth.
Kenton travels to Wapakoneta on Thursday, January 30th to face the undefeated Redskins.
