Kenton Varsity Softball falls to Van Wert 11 – 10

A walk-off left Kenton Varsity Wildcats on the wrong end of an 11-10 defeat to Van Wert on Monday at 5:30. The game was tied at 10 in the bottom of the seventh when Emma Haynes doubled, scoring one run.

Kenton Varsity Wildcats collected 12 hits and Van Wert had nine in the high-scoring affair. A tag up by Riley Totten put Kenton Varsity Wildcats on the board in the top of the first.

Van Wert took the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the first thanks to two errors.

Kenton Varsity Wildcats captured the lead, 4-3, in the top of the second after Lyla Gammon doubled down the left field line, Van Wert committed an error, and Totten tripled to center field, each scoring one run.

An error gave Van Wert the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the third.

Kenton Varsity Wildcats flipped the game on its head in the top of the fifth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 9-7. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Alexis Ratliff following a 8-pitch at-bat that drove in two.

Van Wert tied the game up in the bottom of the sixth thanks to three errors. Van Wert tied the game at 10 on an error.

Emma West earned the win for Van Wert. The reliever allowed two hits and one run over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking one. Kylee Kavanagh took the loss for Kenton Varsity Wildcats. The hurler went one inning, allowing one run on one hit, striking out none and walking none. Ratliff stepped in the circle first for Kenton Varsity Wildcats. The pitcher gave up eight hits and 10 runs (one earned) over five innings, striking out five and walking four. A Wullet stepped in the circle first for Van Wert. The pitcher allowed 10 hits and nine runs (four earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out five and walking none.
