It came down to the wire on Saturday, as Kenton grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 10-9, over McComb. The game was tied at nine in the bottom of the seventh when an error scored one run. Bats blistered as the Wildcats collected eight hits and the Panthers tallied six in the high-scoring game.
McComb opened the scoring in the third after an error scored two runs. Kenton jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the third inning after Macee Heckathorn singled to center field, then scored on a wild pitch, Lyla Gammon grounded out, and CJ Newberry singled to the left side of the infield, each scoring one run.
In the top of the fourth inning, McComb went back into the lead after Laney Rader grounded out, Rylee Scheff singled to center field, and Lily Sebring singled to center field, each scoring one run.
A home run to left field by Heckathorn gave the Wildcats the lead, 6-5, in the bottom of the fourth.
The Panthers captured the lead, 9-6, in the top of the fifth when Hailey Ebright drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Alyvia Shaheen singled, scoring two runs. Kenton tied the game in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a single by Riley Totten and two errors.
Kylee Kavanaugh earned the win for the Wildcats. The hurler allowed one hit and zero runs over three innings, striking out two and walking none. Sebring took the loss for McComb. The right-handed pitcher went six and two-thirds innings, allowing 10 runs (six earned) on eight hits, striking out two and walking seven. Alexis Ratliff stepped in the circle first for Kenton Varsity Wildcats. The starter surrendered five hits and nine runs (three earned) over four innings, striking out one and walking five.
Heckathorn drove the middle of the lineup, leading Kenton with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Emori Criner, Heckathorn, and Newberry each collected two hits for Kenton. Brayla Butler paced the Wildcats with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Totten stole two bases. Kenton ran wild on the base paths, accumulating six stolen bases for the game and turned one double play for the day.
Kenton Varsity Wildcats play at home on Monday against Memorial in their next game.
