Ridgemont wrapped up their season with an impressive 53-36 win over Waynesfield-Goshen. The Gophers just missed the playoffs, but the program, led by head coach Travis Rettig, is clearly on the rise. The senior class of 2025 is the first to graduate with a winning record (22-19) since the class of 1980, which ended their high school careers at 23-15. Additionally, with an 8-3 record in 2024 and a 6-4 finish in 2025, the Gophers have achieved back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1975 and 1976.
It’s no secret that the Gophers’ success is largely thanks to Mason Howard and his offensive line paving the way. The senior now owns Ridgemont records for career rushing yards, touchdowns, total TDs, and points scored. He also set single-season records for rushing yards, touchdowns, total TDs, and points scored. Howard surpassed Greg Whetsel in every category except career rushing yards, previously held by Cameron Smith.
In addition to Mason Howard making his mark in the record books, the 2025 Gophers set new program milestones by scoring 348 points, surpassing the previous record of 265 from 1973. They also broke the 2014 team’s rushing record of 2,844 yards, racking up an impressive 3,088 yards in 2025.
