Ruth Eckstein Puts On Strong Contact Performance As Ridgemont Varsity Gophers Take The Win Over Cory-Rawson Varsity Hornets

Ruth Eckstein collected three hits in four at bats, as Ridgemont Varsity Gophers defeated Cory-Rawson Varsity Hornets 20-6 on Tuesday. Eckstein singled in the fifth inning, doubled in the third inning, and singled in the sixth inning.

Cory-Rawson Varsity Hornets jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Raya Smith singled, scoring one run, and Katelyn Duffman homered to left field, scoring two runs.

Ridgemont Varsity Gophers tied the game in the top of the third thanks to a walk by Kylie Shreve, and a ground out by Braylyn Caldwell.

Cory-Rawson Varsity Hornets took the lead in the bottom of the third. Duffman doubled, scoring one run, to give Cory-Rawson Varsity Hornets the lead, 4-3.

Ridgemont Varsity Gophers captured the lead, 7-4, in the top of the fourth after Laney Elsasser singled down the left field line, Shreve walked, Caldwell walked, and , each scoring one run.

Ridgemont Varsity Gophers scored five runs on three hits in the top of the fifth inning. Elsasser singled, scoring two runs, Eckstein singled, scoring two runs, and Shreve drew a walk, scoring one run.

Ridgemont Varsity Gophers scored eight runs on three hits in the top of the sixth inning. Duffman induced Brilynn Rudasill to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, Eckstein singled, scoring one run, Shreve singled, scoring one run, Riley Hites drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, and Rudasill singled, scoring two runs.

Aubrie Overly earned the win for Ridgemont Varsity Gophers. The pitcher allowed five hits and three runs (two earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking one. Duffman took the loss for Cory-Rawson Varsity Hornets. The pitcher went six innings, allowing 20 runs (10 earned) on 10 hits, striking out seven and walking eight. Caldwell started in the circle for Ridgemont Varsity Gophers. The hurler gave up three hits and three runs over one inning, striking out one and walking none.

Ridgemont Varsity Gophers piled up 10 hits in the game. Elsasser, Eckstein, and Rudasill each drove in three runs for Ridgemont Varsity Gophers. Overly collected two hits for Ridgemont Varsity Gophers in five at bats. Shreve led Ridgemont Varsity Gophers with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Ridgemont Varsity Gophers stole six bases in the game.

Duffman provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Cory-Rawson Varsity Hornets with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Addyson Duffman and Duffman each collected two hits for Cory-Rawson Varsity Hornets.

Ridgemont Varsity Gophers will travel to Waynesfield-Goshen Varsity Tigers for their next game on Monday.
