USV Softball Suffers Tough Loss in Nail-biter Against Elgin

Upper Scioto Valley battled in a high-scoring contest Tuesday evening but came up short in a 13-10 loss to Elgin in Northwest Central Conference play.

The Rams racked up 13 hits on the night, with contributions coming from all over the lineup. Audrey Lawrence was unstoppable, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Ashlyn Downing had a stellar game as well, finishing 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI, while Layla Hunsicker chipped in with two hits and crossed the plate twice. It didn’t stop there. Ruby Risner and Chloe Cunningham each knocked in two runs for Upper Scioto Valley, with Risner hitting a double and Cunningham adding both a double and a stolen base. Bentley Lopez and Grace Carl also chipped in with an RBI apiece.

Raegan Castle stepped in the circle to start, pitching 4.1 innings and striking out three. Ruby Risner stepped in for relief, throwing 2.2 innings and racking up four strikeouts.

Upper Scioto Valley will return to action Wednesday at home against Kenton.
