Wyandot County Sheriff’s Deputy Forced to Fire Shots at Attacking Dog

A Wyandot County Sheriff’s Deputy was forced to discharge his service weapon after being attacked by a pit bull dog Wednesday.

According to the report from the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 5000 block of State Highway 53 in reference to a dog bite and domestic situation.

It was discovered that a father and son exchanged punches, and during the time, the son’s pitbull bit the father in the face.

The dog was ordered confined to the house while the investigation was conducted, but the dog escaped through the front door and went after a deputy, coming within inches of his face.

After firing a shot, the dog kept approaching forcing the deputy to fire two more rounds, with one striking the dog in the leg.

The deputy was not injured.

The dog’s owner, Dustin Sweigard, was placed under arrested for punching his dad. He has been charged with domestic violence.

The dad was treated at the scene by EMS personnel.

It’s not clear if additional charges will be filed.
