The Fremont Post is currently investigating a two-vehicle left-of-center crash with serious injury.  The crash occurred on CR 132 (South River Road) south of CR 41 (Buckland Avenue) in Ballville Township Sandusky County.  The crash occurred yesterday, June 11th, at approximately 5:11 pm.

Unit #1, a dark green 2003 Chevy Silverado driven by Hunter S. Schindler, age 24, of Findlay was northbound on CR 132.  Unit #2, a tan 2007 Chevy Silverado driven by Cole W. Schoendorf, age 23, of Helena was southbound on CR 132.  Ms. Schindler failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, went left-of-center, and sideswiped Mr. Schoendorf’s vehicle.  Ms. Schindler then ran off the west side of the roadway, and struck a traffic sign.  After impact with the traffic sign, Ms. Schindler ran back onto the roadway, then off the east side of the roadway and struck two trees.  The vehicle she was driving then caught on fire and became fully engulfed.  Mr. Schoendorf’s vehicle ran off the west side of the roadway after impact and did not strike anything.

Ms. Schindler had a passenger in the vehicle with her.  Dylan B. Brady, age 25, of Fremont was the front seat passenger.  Both Ms. Schindler and Mr. Brady were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.  Mr. Schoendorf was able to remove Ms. Schindler from the vehicle prior to it becoming fully engulfed.  Mr. Brady was able to exit the vehicle under his own power.  Ms. Schindler sustained serious injuries and she was taken to Saint Vincent’s Medical Center where she is currently listed in stable condition.  Mr. Brady sustained minor injuries and was transported to Fremont ProMedica Hospital.

Mr. Schoendorf was wearing his seatbelt.  He sustained minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash and the crash remains under investigation at this time.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, Ballville Township Fire Department, Sandusky County EMS, and Ash’s Towing.
