For 14 years, the VanBuskirk’s have had a church in Kenton.
About a year into their ministry, they were called to start a food pantry. The Bread of Life Food Pantry was born from a humble beginning in the basement of the Parsonage next to the church, located at 129 N. Wayne Street.
Anita recalls having a cement truck chute positioned in a basement window to get the food into the basement and having to stack it on a few shelves. The food was limited, but still served a need. The food pantry soon grew from the basement to the first floor of the parsonage next door, where more volunteers helped set up for the food distributions and more people could access the goods without having to navigate stairs.
The Bread of Life Food Pantry now partners with the West Ohio Food Bank to procure food. Local stores provide excess, fresh produce. The small church still has to buy some food to help fill the needs.
In May of 2025 over 670 people and 270 households were served.
The mission of the food pantry is that no one goes hungry. Their mission is not restricted to Hardin County.
If you are hungry and can get to the food pantry, you will leave with food and it is the hope of the pastors, a little more of the Lord.
Today, the food pantry is expanding again into a 14’x40’ building behind the church.
It is not quite ready and the Pastors are asking for help in getting it ready.
