A Prospect man faces a life sentence after a recent plea in a child sex abuse investigation led by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Kyle Knickel, 24, pleaded guilty to the rape of a child under the age of 10, pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, and gross sexual imposition, admitting to a string of sexual assaults that scarred multiple children over several years.
The case began when the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force alerted the Marion County Sheriff’s Office to an explicit image downloaded by Knickel.
A subsequent investigation led to disclosures from two child victims, ages 7 and 8, who bravely revealed years-old abuse to professionals at The Center for Family Safety and Healing at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Knickel will be sentenced by Judge Todd Anderson and is required to register as a sex offender for life.
Marion County Prosecutor Ray Grogan stated in the release that “Marion County residents demand protection for every child,” and that “this outcome protects other children and warns the predators who we know are out there: we’re watching, and you’ll pay.”

Kyle Knickel, 24, pleaded guilty today to the rape of a victim under 10 years old, pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, and gross sexual imposition, admitting to a string of sexual assaults that scarred multiple children over several years. He faces a life sentence.
The crimes, which unfolded in the village of Prospect, came to light after The Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force alerted the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Marion,OH to a deeply troubling image that Knickel had downloaded. During the investigation, a 7 year old child and an 8 year old child bravely disclosed the sexual abuse they endured years prior to professionals at The Center for Family Safety and Healing at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
The Prosecutor’s Office pursued the case relentlessly, building on evidence from the Sheriff’s office probe that exposed Knickel’s pattern of targeting vulnerable kids. The guilty plea ensures accountability for sexual assaults that robbed them of innocence.
“This plea drags a child sexual predator into the light and locks in justice for these kids,” Ray Grogan, Marion County Prosecutor, said. “Knickel’s actions were pure evil, and we refused to let him hide.”
The conviction highlights Grogan’s fierce stance against child exploitation, with Sheriff Matt Bayle’s office and child advocates playing pivotal roles in empowering the victims to speak out. Grogan continues to pursue other Marion County child sex offenders, many of whom will go to great lengths to avoid justice.
“I’ve prosecuted many people who sexually assault children and one thing I’ve learned is that they’ll do anything to distract attention and shift blame from their wicked actions,” Grogan continued. “Luckily, our sex crime prosecutions have solid evidence that helps us defeat these attempts at escaping responsibility. Some cases take longer than others, but we never give up on justice and this case is the latest example.”
Knickel now awaits sentencing in front of Judge Todd Anderson. Knickel will also have to register as a sex offender for life.
“Marion County residents demand protection for every child,” Grogan concluded. “This outcome protects other children and warns the predators who we know are out there: we’re watching, and you’ll pay.”
