
The Pleasant Township Fire Department, in coordination with the Ohio Division of State Fire Marshal, is currently investigating a residential structure fire that resulted in two fatalities early Friday morning.
According to a release from Pleasant Township Fire Department Chief Clint Caterbury, emergency crews were dispatched at around 3:30 this (Friday January 30) morning to 837 Marion Cardington Road East following reports of a structure fire.
Upon arrival, responders encountered heavy fire conditions throughout the residence.
Despite aggressive suppression and rescue efforts, two occupants in the house, a 4-year-old female and a 72-year-old female did not survive the fire.
Their identities are being withheld at this time pending formal notification of next of kin and further medical examination.
The cause and origin of the blaze remain under active investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Fire and Explosion Investigations Bureau (FEIB).
No additional details regarding the status of the investigation are available at this hour.
Pleasant Township was assisted on the scene by several mutual aid partners, including Marion Township Fire Department, Fort Morrow Fire District, 1st Consolidated Fire District, Green Camp Township Fire Department, Battle Run Fire District, Marion City Fire Department, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Marion County Coroner.
