Kenton Lions Club Releases Minutes from Wednesday’s Meeting

The Kenton Lions Club held its regular meeting on Wednesday, May 6th, at the Kenton Elks. The meeting was called to order at 6:33 pm by Lion President Brad Bailey with 16 members and one guest present.

President Lion Brad led the pledge and prayer.

The meeting was adjourned for a meal and called back to order at 6:58 pm.

Guest Speaker: Hardin Co. Auditor Michael Bacon talked to the club about how the taxes are generally handled for the county and upcoming bills on Ohio House of Reps. floor soon. Mr. Bacon handed out packets about the rise in taxes from 2023 to 2026, soon to be voted on bills, and a letter about the Triennial Update Recommendations for the 2026 Tax Year. His packet included both past and current school taxes that are paid, and a list of the 2025 Dollar Comparison for all of Hardin County and their values. He talked about how the state and county track and how the state breaks down each area of our areas for a type of sale of property weather it being: Agricultural, Residential, Commercial, and/or Industrial.

Communications for the club: Lion President Brad Bailey mentioned a letter from the Community Players about a possible donation. Lion Treasure Kirk Cameron talked about them a little more; they are basically made up of a theatre group of Kenton children between grades of 2nd to 8th from different schools around the County.

Motion from Immediate Past President Lion Jason Van Buskirk moved to donate $100 to the group, 2nd from Lion Joe Burbacher. Motion Passed. Lion Gary Whitmer wanted to thank the club for the $250 donation to the Kenton Band Boosters; the club along with one other group did the $250 donation. Lion Treasurer Kirk Cameron received in the promotional postcard type mail for a “Hole in One” type postcard that could be an idea for our future Golf Outings since this one is coming up very soon. Immediate Past President Lion Jason Van Buskirk announced to the club that we were now an official member of the Kenton Chamber of Commerce.

Lion Bill Keller also announced to the club while at the District 13 OH1 convention we were awarded “Journey of Hope” Award for our $500 donation to the Ohio Lions Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Lion Bill Keller received a message from Lion Aaron Osborn that he would like to do both a clean-up for Pioneer Park and the Welcome Road sign on either the 19th or 20th. Lion President Brad Bailey thought the best would be the 20th at 4:30pm. We could order pizza & pop, basically have the clean-up then, and possibly a short meeting later that evening while there, not at the Elks.

Immediate Past President Jason Van Buskirk to accept the Secretary and Treasurer report. After a 2nd by Lion Bruce Oberlitner, members voted. Motion passed on the Secretary and Treasurer report.

Committee Reports:

Pioneer Park – Lion Joe Burbacher said he was able to get 2 more grants, each for $2000. One would be for the benches downtown, and the other would be for Pioneer Park.

Roadside Clean-up:

Lion Bill Keller stated there was still a portion of the road that needed finished and we could possibly look around our July meeting timeframe to finish it. Mints: Lion Jack Elsasser stated there were 65 rolls sold, and the amounts he had collected from our holders.

Old Business:

Lion President Brad Bailey talked about the upcoming Memorial Day parade and getting the Caged Lion float we have into the parade. Participating Lions need to be at the Harding Co. Library between 8:30-8:45 am. Lion Joe Landsburg talked
more to the club about the upcoming Father’s Day Baseball Tournament and what all it entails. Lion Joe stated basically on that weekend they would need volunteers; Friday- 3-5 Lions for 1 shift, Saturday – 3-5 Lions for 2 shifts, and on Sunday it would mainly be in the morning 3-5 for 1 shift. The club would get at least 15% of the profit made from the weekend. Lion Tracy Anderson motioned the club go ahead for the helping of the tournament. 2nd – Lion Gary Whitmer, Motion Passed. New Business: Healthy Day at Kroger lot was partially discussed about still getting, but unknown still with the snow cone machine. Immediate Past President Jason Van Buskirk discussed the upcoming beer tent on August 22nd concert for “Dueling Piano’s” later this year, still discussion on how much beer to order, and how to setup the logistics of the tent for the event.

The 50/50 was won by Lion President Brad Bailey and he donated it back to the club.

The Meeting Adjourned at 8:45 pm Followed by the Lions Roar.
