A groundswell of support has sprung up to provide help to residents of Seton Kenton Apartments thanks to social media.
The complex’s air conditioning unit has been out since the end of May, according to a relative of one of the residents, and it won’t be fixed until July.
During the heatwave this week, an 81-year-old resident is said to have contacted her daughter telling her it was so hot in her apartment and she didn’t feel well.

The relative stated that the thermostat in the apartment read 90 degrees.
Enter social media posts, and within five hours of posting Kenton Mayor Lynn Webb responded.
She notified State Representative Ty Mathews assistant, who notified the Area Agency on Aging office.
Mayor Webb told WKTN that she contacted Borror Property Management to inquire what the city could do to help.
They informed her that they ordered the part needed to fix the air conditioning unit, but it would be a 6 to 8 week wait time.
In the meantime, the company contacted relatives of the residents knowing that a heatwave was coming advising them of the situation in case they wanted to move their loved one in with them on a temporary basis.
The company secured 21 rooms at Country Hearth Inn.
Residents were informed about the rooms either by door-to-door contact or a message taped to their door, and 13 of the 50 residents decided to lodge at the hotel.
Portable air conditioning units are being used to operate a cooling station in the first floor community room, where the temperature is being maintained at 68 degrees.

The units could not be used in each apartment because it would overload the complex’s electrical system.
Seton Kenton is a senior living apartment community managed by Borror Senior Living.
It is located at 699 Morningside Drive in Kenton.
