Detectives in Marion County are asking for assistance from the public to solve a cold case investigation.

On December 5th, 1985, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office investigated a homicide on Allen Road in Larue.

The victim in the case was William Allen, who had been attacked and died of blunt force trauma.

The motive of the homicide was robbery as the victim was well known for buying furs from hunters and trappers and carrying large sums of money on his person.

He was found in the grass at the rear of his home where he lived with his mother.

Allen’s mother reported looking out the window that night around 11PM and saw Bill in the fur house.  She also advised that she saw a long, older model, black in color car backing up to the front of the fur house but was unable to provide a license plate number.

Approximately two years ago, detectives from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office again started looking at the case and evidence was resubmitted to BCI&I due to the advances in sciences and investigation techniques.

A $5000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the crime.

If you have any information, please contact the Marion County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division or Captain Ken Rittenour at 740-382-8244 Ext. 5103 or via email at krittenour@co.marion.oh.us.  You can also call 740-375-TIPS (8477) or online at: mariontips.org
