Two People Seriously Injured in Logan County Crash

Marysville – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred Thursday evening on US 33 near Mile Post 21 in Logan County.

At approximately 7:20 P.M., the Ohio State Highway Patrol received notification of a single-vehicle injury crash. First responders arrived to find the vehicle on the north side of the roadway against the concrete barrier.

The driver was identified as Zoila Lupera, 55, of Elida and the passenger was identified as Jorge Lupera-Centeno, 84, of Ecuador.

The preliminary investigation showed Zoila Lupera was operating a 2012 Ford Explorer west on US 33. Zoila Lupera crossed over the right edge line and over corrected. Zoila Lupera then travelled back across both lanes and ran off the left side of the road and struck the concrete barrier multiple times. The vehicle travelled back across both lanes, struck the other concrete barrier and came to final rest.

Zoila Lupera was transported to Ohio State University Medical Center by air ambulance and Jorge Lupera-Centeno was transported to Mary Rutan by ground ambulance. Once he was stabilized at Mary Rutan, he was transferred to Ohio State University Medical Center by air ambulance. Zoila Lupera is in stable condition and Jorge Lupera-Centeno is in
critical condition.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol received assistance from Bellefontaine Fire/EMS, Tri-Valley EMS, MedFlight and Schaffer’s Towing.

Both occupants were wearing their safety belts and impairment is not believed to be a factor.
