The Bellefontaine Police Department notified the public about a scam that’s been taking place.
The agency has received several reports of citizens falling victim to scams.
These reports indicated suspects advised the victims of money they had won, or they were going to assist them in some way.
The scammers were able to get the victims to send them numerous gift card numbers as a result.
Residents are encouraged to not fall victim to these scammers.
Anytime someone is promising you something in return for payment where they are asking you to send them gift cards, or other forms of payment such as Western Union, Money Gram, or other odd forms of payment, you should be very suspicious as no company or business will ask you to do that.
