An 18-year-old Dayton resident who was involved in an incident back in May has been found competent to stand trial

Jayden Shannon is charged with two counts of failing to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and one count each of obstructing official business and receiving stolen property following the incident that occurred on May 20.

The incident started in the parking lot of Ralphie’s Sports Eatery in Kenton, and continued with a police pursuit up Detroit Street, before the stolen vehicle Shannon was driving crashed into a house

Shannon then allegedly fled the area on foot and was apprehended in the 100 block of North Market Street.

His court appointed attorney filed a not guilty by reason of insanity plea, and an evaluation was ordered and conducted by Dr. Jamie C. Adkins, of the Forensic Diagnostic Center.

Dr. Adkins submitted a report indicating that Shannon is currently capable of understanding the nature and objective of legal proceedings against him and assisting in his own defense.

Shannon’s attorney then withdrew the not guilty by reason of insanity plea, and a jury trial was set for September 10 in Hardin County Common Pleas Court.
