Kenton City Council conducted its third regular session of the year Monday evening.

Kenton Police Chief Dennis Musser informed council members that his department has hired a new police officer. The Chief called Garrett Warner, “a Kenton kid, and I’m hoping he remains a Kenton kid for a long time.”

Officer Warner will be introduced to council at a future meeting.

Chief Musser also stated that money from a grant that he announced earlier has been received. He said he is moving ahead with a five-year plan that is expected to be completed in about a month listing the items to be purchased, ”New body cameras, new radios, and again that was a Kolt Buchenroth thing. I really didn’t do anything other than write a letter of support and tell him what I wanted, so it kind of highlights our relationship with the schools these days. It’s pretty awesome.”

Chief Musser said that the grant amount is between 150,000 and 200,000 dollars which he noted is a big deal for Kenton.

Also at the meeting, Safety Service Director Cindy Murray said residents will notice some trees being removed on Detroit Street for the upcoming roundabout project. She said, “There’s four on Detroit and a couple of smaller ones on Main Street. Those have to be down by April 1 to help protect the endangered species of bats.”

She noted that you cannot tear these trees down from April 1 through October 1, so they must be removed before the roundabout starts.

The next meeting of Kenton City Council is scheduled for February 23.
