Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost came to Marion today to announce that the Marion Police Department will be among the first agencies in the state to begin using a portable mass spectrometer to test narcotics on site.

“This pilot program will enhance officer safety, provide prompt information for prosecutors and hopefully will become the normative proof in the courtroom,” Attorney General Yost said. “Taking BCI’s lab capabilities into the community provides real-time results and is a force multiplier.”

A department spokesperson said they honored to be one of three sites selected across Ohio to utilize this cutting edge equipment.

The department also announced that this technology will be available to their partners to use from Union and Delaware counties as well at the Marion location.
