After finishing 5th at state last year, Riverdale’s Grady Phelps punched his ticket to this year’s semi-finals, only to be edged out by Southeast’s Dominic Kemble on a last-second takedown. Phelps isn’t done yet, though he’ll be back on the mat tomorrow morning to fight for a shot at 3rd place.

In his debut at the Division II State Wrestling Tournament, Kenton’s Isaac Blevins made it to the semi-finals before falling to CVCA’s Paul Tepley. He’ll be back on the mat tomorrow, guaranteed no lower than 6th place and still in the running for a shot at 3rd.

Jayden Mustain is the State Powerlifting Champion at 195

Photos Courtesy of Katie and Michael Mustain Jayden Mustain earned Kenton a state powerlifting title in the 195-pound weight class with a total lift of 1,325 pounds. Mustain didn't just win, he dominated his class, setting a weight class record by bench pressing 385 pounds, delivering the top squat at 575 pounds, and adding a deadlift of 365 pounds.

Beau Sanders Named Second Team All–Northwest Ohio

Upper Scioto Valley High School’s Beau Sanders earned a spot on the Division VII Second Team All–Northwest Ohio in boys’ basketball. The honor caps off an impressive season for Beau, showcasing his hard work, dedication, and leadership that played a huge role in the Rams’ success. The school expressed pride in how Beau represented Upper Scioto Valley both on and off the court.

Riverdale Wrestling Duo Both Secure Wins at State

Riverdale wrestling’s dynamic duo, Kydin Reed and Grady Phelps, both notched wins at this year’s OHSAA Division III State Wrestling Tournament. Reed dropped his opening match to Budder Manley of River Valley but bounced back with a win in his first consolation bout to stay in the hunt for 3rd. Phelps came out strong with a first-round victory and will hit the mat in tomorrow’s quarterfinals against Colton Nixon of Martins Ferry. All matches can be streamed HERE.

Blevins Advances to Quarterfinals

H/T Kenton Wildcat Athletics Isaac Blevins went up against Austin Wheatley of West Geauga in the first round of this year's OHSAA Div. II State Wrestling Tournament. Blevins secured an 11-3 win in the match to advance. Blevins will now face Presley Stewart of Eaton in the quarterfinals beginning tomorrow at 10 AM. All matches can be streamed HERE.

Allen East Announces New Head Football Coach

Allen East High School has announced the hiring of Shane Wireman as its new head football coach. Wireman has spent the last two seasons with Shawnee, where he led them to an 8-4 record and their first winning record since 2021 last season. Wireman will now bring a winning pedigree to his alma mater with a 58-46 record as a head coach.

Ada to take on Perry at Day Air Stadium

Ada’s baseball team is excited to share that they’ll be playing at Day Air Stadium, home of the Dayton Dragons. The Bulldogs will take on Perry High School on April 17, and fans can enjoy the game for free. To help make this special event possible, the Ada Baseball program is selling tickets for upcoming Dayton Dragons games on May 12, May 26, July 5, and September 6. Tickets are available from Coach Deitering or Ken Jochims.
