Kenton City Council voted Monday evening to transition solid waste and recycling services providers for the city.

Law Director John Schwemer said the two bids received were from the current provider Republic and Rumpke, “The Rumpke rate was around $4 per month cheaper for the residents, and that’s $4 per user so that’s about $48 a year and over a five-year term, you’re nearly $250 per resident, ballpark. We’ve had a good relationship with Republic. They’ve worked well, but when you talk about the difference in money, the city has to look to look at that because it’s saving our people money”

The contract is effectrive as of July 1 this year.

Republic will pick up their trash and recycling carts, and then Rumpke will distribute theirs.

Details on the logistics of that are still being worked on, and information will be announced soon.
