Kenton City Schools Karsen Sprang of the Kenton-Ohio Hi-Point FFA chapter in Kenton has been named a national finalist this year for the Grain Production Agricultural Proficiency Award. Abundant Life Assembly of God The annual Craft Show at Abundant Life Church in Kenton will be held November 14. The hours will be from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm at the church, located at 1010 East Franklin Street in Kenton. Admission that day will be $2 and all proceeds support children's ministry at the church. Hardin SWCD Hardin Soil and Water Conservation will hold its annual Meeting and Customer Appreciation event on August 20. It will start at 5:00 pm in the Shelter House at the Hardin County Fairgrounds in Kenton. A catered meal from 101 Smokehouse will be served. Voting will take place for the election of two Board of Supervisor candidates between Dave Snider, Blake Willeke and Trent Watkins. This event is free and all are welcome to attend.
City of Kenton Government Kenton City Council met in regular session Monday evening. Council members heard about plans to move ahead with Phase 2 of the North Detroit Street project, including going after a $500,000 grant. Council also discussed resident concerns, finances, economic development efforts and more. Also during the meeting, Council recognized longtime Kenton Times reporter Tim Thomas on his retirement. The Marion Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol will be conducting an OVI checkpoint this week. The county where the checkpoint will take place will be announced the day prior, and the exact location in that county will be announced the morning of the checkpoint. If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Operational support for the sobriety checkpoint will be provided by local law enforcement agencies.
A railroad crossing on US 68 in Dunkirk was blocked early this morning due to malfunctioning railroad crossing gates. The Hardin County Sheriff's Office advised motorists to find an alternate route due to the situation. The crossing gates were repaired and normal traffic resumed around two and half hours later.
Several rounds of thunderstorms have rumbled across the area over the past couple of days. Monday morning's storm brought down power poles and lines in the 900 block of East Columbus Street in Kenton which resulted in a widespread power outage. AEP crews had power restored to most customers by 6:00 Monday evening. Findlay Police Dispatch received a call from a resident of the Rodeway Inn, room 214 at 1 p.m. Monday of a male threatening to harm himself. The caller stated he had a gun and then disconnected. Officers arrived on scene and located the male, identified as Holden Smith, (37 year old male) standing in the parking lot in front of the room when Officers arrived.
