City of Kenton officials announced that CSX Railroad plans to repair several crossings in the city. Work is expected to start August 24 at crossings on Detroit, Leighton, and Franklin Streets. They will be closed while important upgrades are completed. The work is expected to last 5 to 6 days. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead and be ready for a few detours.
A two-vehicle crash occurred at around 7:50 Tuesday morning at the intersection of Main and Espy Streets in Kenton. According to the report from the Kenton Police Department, 28-year-old Cristobal Yovani, of Columbus, was driving north on Main and ran a red light at Espy. Halie Breeden The Ohio Third District Court of Appeals on Monday upheld the conviction and sentencing of a Kenton woman. 29-year-old Halie Breeden was sentenced to 14 to 18 years in prison this past February after pleading guilty in Hardin County Common Pleas Court to aggravated vehicular homicide, aggravated vehicular assault and possession of drugs. As students prepare to head back to school, the City of Lima is launching Slow Down Lima. The campaign combines education, neighborhood engagement, public service announcements, yard signs, and targeted messaging to encourage drivers to slow down and be more aware of the people around them. City officials are asking Lima residents to display a Slow Down Lima sign, in the hopes of catching a driver's attention. Residents can request a free sign on the limaohio.gov website.
Dollar General in Alger is still coming to the village. Alger Mayor Von Summa said the process has slowed, but it's still on track. He said the project slowed because the company moved away from its original contractor and had to start over. Kenton Lions Club Kenton Lions Club members are still selling Cash Raffle tickets. The first prize is $1000 and the second is $500. The drawing will be during the Kenton Historic Courthouse District Summer Concert Series on August 22, which will be a Billy Joel and Elton John tribute night. Kenton Lions will operate the beer garden from 6:00 until 9:00 that evening.
