Village of Alger Taking Bids for Vehicle

The Village of Alger is taking sealed bids only for a 2003 Ford Ranger truck.   The bids will be accepted through Monday, April 29th.   You must put your name and contact information inside a sealed envelope.   Take the bids to the Village Office at 207 Angle Street or put them in the drop box.   If you have any questions call Mayor Von Summa at 757-605-8090.

Helping Hands Serving Free Meal to the Public

A free meal will served to the public this coming Saturday at Helping Hands Outreach Ministries in Kenton.   The meal will be served starting at 11 Saturday morning.   The menu consists of ham, scalloped potatoes, baked beans and a dessert.   You can dine in or carry out. USV Welcoming Motivational Speaker to School

Upper Scioto Valley Schools will welcome a youth motivational speaker in May.   Jeff Yalden has spoke in all 50 states and 48 countries.   He is considered the number one youth motivational speaker in the world, and an Amazon number 1 best selling author.   Yalden will speak on Tuesday May 7 from 6 until 7:30pm in the Upper Scioto Valley School cafeteria.

Hardin County Fair Sheep Department Requiring Weigh-In Registration

Kenton Woman Facing Drug Charges in Allen County

A Kenton woman who was indicted this month in Allen County on drug charges was in Allen County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday.   The Lima News reported that 31 year old Erika Parkins waived her right to a speedy trial.   She has been charged with possession of a fentanyl related compound, which is a first degree felony and a fifth degree felony count of possession of heroin.   Her vehicle was under electronic surveillance and was observed travelling […]

Clean Up Day in Alger Scheduled for April 27

Alger Clean Up Day will be April 27th from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.   There will be dumpsters located at the village garage behind the gas station.   No hazardous waste or hazardous materials of any kind will be accepted.   There will be volunteers there to assist with off-loading.   Be prepared to show proof of residency, a water bill and drivers license will be sufficient.

Chalking Tires Ruled Unconstitutional by 6th District U.S. Court of Appeals

A federal court ruled this week that marking tires to enforce parking rules is unconstitutional in Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky and Tennessee.   The three judge panel of the appeals court found that marking the tires is tantamount to entering a property without a search warrant.   The court went so far as to say marking the tires is more about raising revenue rather than protecting the public against a safety risk.

Marion Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Raping 4 Year Old Girl

A sex offender in Marion was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for raping a four year old girl in December of 2018.   The Marion Star reported that 41 year old Steven C. Hardin was given the maximum sentence by Marion County Common Pleas Court Judge Warren Edwards.   Hardin was dating the girls babysitter at the time.
