Fire Destroys Home on State Route 67 Near Kenton; No Injuries Reported

A house on State Route 67, west of Kenton, was destroyed by a fire Tuesday. According to information from Richland Township Fire Chief Jason Johns, firefighters were dispatched to 7345 State Route 67 near Jumbo at around 9:20 Tuesday morning. The structure was fully involved with flames when firefighters arrived, and the two occupants were outside, and there were no injuries. The Village of Forest announced today that Mayor Dave Book has officially resigned, effective July 15, 2025, citing health-related reasons. Book, who has served the community with dedication and leadership, is stepping down to focus on his well-being. Council President Derek Hastings will assume the role of acting mayor. 4-H Member Olivia Newland Joins Youth from Four States for Fire & EMS Training

Photo: Ohio State University Extension - Hardin County A member of Country Timers 4-H Club is preparing for a career in rescue services.  Recently, Olivia Newland represented the Ridgeway Fire Department at the Ohio Youth Fire EMS Training Academy.  She, along with 41 other youth from Ohio, New Jersey, Indiana, and Kentucky, had hands-on training in vehicle extraction, repelling, search and rescue, and more.  Olivia also serves as a 4-H Camp Counselor and Junior Fair Board member.
